Fact is that when Scotland (lowland Scottish dignitries) agreed to join in the UK gang, Scotland's finances were embarrassing.

England had a lot to do with that. Constantly meddling in Scotland's affairs and trade deals. Scotland was a poor country in part because of the big bully next door. A big bully that just wanted Scotland and Ireland to do as it said.

When Scotland made an attempt to create it's own Empire, English hierarchy was irate.

However, I would hate to live in a socialist or even communist Scotland. Perhaps, Scottish people have had the very best of all options. I mean, if we had never agreed to join the UK, it would have taken a much bigger power than England to change our mind. But, we could have easily gone down a communist path. We could have been Russia and China's biggest friend in Europe.

A few years ago, the idea of living in Russia or China would have terrified anyone who regards their freedom as the only thing worth going to war over. Today, Russia and China seem to be a much better place to stay.

Socialism is still very strong in Scotland and that makes many people nervous.

The fact is that over the centuries, Scotland has many reasons to be angry with our big southern bully but we can be thankfull for our freedom. England invented democracy, which is so far the best system in the world to live.
