why is scotland not independent
Our surveys of Scots living in Scotland show that if Scottish people were as well off as they are now and the head of the Scottish state remained the same as that in the rest of the Commonwealth. 87% of SCOTS would vote YES to independence.
If it were not for the world wars "Scotland would have defiantly been independent before Ireland". To this mind, "Scotland joined the UK voluntarily but history will show that she was always destined to move on."
As it happens, Scotland has had a tough time financially since WWII so it was best to stay in the fold. When the oil came in the seventies, there was no real public idea of how much was there and what would happen if Scotland had it all for itself. National self confidence was low. We think like wounded rabbits "Could we even get the oil out on our own"? Scotland has got used to only getting things done only with parental consent. It's time to stand on our own two feet
With regard to those who want to stay with the UK. I can understand those that are very old, frail or dependant on the state. They are concerned by any change. However, young men and women that do not want their country to do for itself are weak.
I could not care less if it meant I was poorer, even much poorer, I still want SCOTLAND to march to it's own drum beat.
It makes no difference to Northern Ireland, Wales or England if we stay or go.
I hate to hear the argument about oil, who cares, it is just one of many fantastic Scottish industries that contribute greatly to the UK. The Scottish economic figures show a country that is not able to stand on it's own. Are you going to believe the worlds best sales people all your lives?
Where are your balls Scotland? Since moving from the Highlands to the central belt of SCOTLAND I have been greatly dissapointed by the reaction of people to the idea of independence. Mr. Alex Salmond has said SCOTLAND will be independant by 2017. If not I will move abroad, consider the fictious (but typically holliwoody - show your ass to the facts - type entertainment) movie "Braveheart" a comedy and turn my back on the country I love.

All this nonsensical talk is puzzling in view of the facts. seen stickers on lampposts in Glasgow which say, Scotland, not Britain. All right, then, what are you going to do with Strathclyde? Originally it stretched from the Welsh border to Dumbarton, the Fort of the Britons. Also Edinburgh was named after the Anglian(English)king Edwin (Edwinburgh). Right up to the Forth was the English kingdom of Northumbria. So the west lowlands were (are) British (Welsh), and the east lowlands were (are) English, historically. The rest, apart from Argyll (Dal Riada), which was conquered by the Irish Gaels, was (is) Pictish. The Islands are mostly Norse, so where is this Scotland you keep ranting on about? tell you where it is. It is in England, where those so-called Scots have been going for centuries to try and stay warm, in America, Canada, Australia and New Zealand, where they were sent by their greedy clan chieftains who preferred sheep to them, and why the Highlands are bare. And blame the English for Invading Scotland and killing Wallace. England at the time was in thrall to the Normans. Robert de Brus was a Norman who wanted a kingdom, so he used the to get it for him, then he built castles, like his Norman pals in England, to control them. Read your true history, not the codswallop that that idiot Mel Gibson shoves out. What we all should be doing instead of bickering over trivialities, is looking at what the labourites in Westminster are doing to country, because if you in dire danger of losing it forever. We are seperate countries in a relationship that worked well but is now past its best. Do we have to wait until the relationship turns sour or worse before we are brave enough to face up to the reality that things have to change. done, forget it. No regrets, often been great, but not waste any more time. By Simon, From Fort William, Scotland. "Many thanks Simon. Please visit and comment again soon. scottishway.com"

What is the point of the uion? England looks after English people first and the rest of the UK next. That is a natural human trait. Scottish people should look after themselves first. I like English people and look forward to the great country of England being a friendly ally rather than the current set up that makes everybody moan. By Jock MacJock, From Jockland. I smirk when you read online (e.g. yahoo answers (breeding ground for garbage)) or in books about how the UK was formed by England conquering Wales and Scotland.
